Build a repeatable UGC engine: sourcing, rights, incentives, and reuse in ads
Shoppers trust each other more than they trust you.
47% rank customer reviews as the most influential content when researching a product, versus 11% for brand social posts and 10% for influencer posts (Bazaarvoice Shopper Experience Index, via Hootsuite).
AI drafts the outreach, briefs, and permission wording in minutes. A creator marketplace and an ad platform handle what AI cannot: real creators, signed rights, and live ad delivery.
Fastest path: one prompt, end to end
🤖 AI prompt — paste into ChatGPT / Claude
You are my UGC program manager. I sell [product] under [brand] and want to source creator content, secure reuse rights, and run it in paid ads.
Draft three clearly-labeled sections I can copy out:
SECTION A. Outreach DM (60 words max): warm and specific, to a happy customer or creator [name/handle]. Ask for a [photo or short video] of [specific moment or use], and name the incentive: [incentive, e.g. $75 or free product].
SECTION B. Creator brief (bullet list): the shot I want, must-show details, tone, length [e.g. 15 to 30s vertical], one do and one dont, and the deadline [date].
SECTION C. Rights-permission snippet (50 words max): plain-language consent the creator can approve by replying "I agree." It must grant [brand] the right to use the content on [channels I list, e.g. paid ads, website, social], state any time limit [e.g. 12 months or perpetual], and confirm they own the footage.
Rules: If you cite any creator rate, platform mechanic, or benchmark, open the source (for example the marketplace pricing page) and name it next to the figure. Do not guess or estimate any number. If you cannot verify it, leave it blank and tell me which tool to check. If you cannot browse, say so and mark those spots [fill in].
Or do it in 2 weeks
- Days 1 to 2, open three sourcing lanes. Existing customers: a Klaviyo (klaviyo.com) post-purchase flow, sent 5 to 7 days after delivery, asking for a photo or video (SMS converts about 66% higher than email, per Yotpo). Paid creators: post your brief on Billo (billo.app) or insense (insense.pro). Employees: ask 3 to 5 staff for one clip each. Target 15 to 20 clips.
- Days 3 to 7, collect and log rights. Never treat a public tag as consent. For every asset, get written permission and log 5 fields in a Google Sheet (sheets.google.com): post link, creator handle, approved channels, expiry date, and where the consent lives (DM screenshot or email). No row means do not use it.
- Days 8 to 9, set a 3-tier incentive ladder. Entry: a feature or repost on your account. Mid: free product or a discount code. Top: an ongoing paid partnership. Publish the tiers so submitters can see a reason to keep sending.
- Days 10 to 12, cut ad variants. Take your 3 best clips and make 2 to 3 hooks and captions for each, so 6 to 9 test creatives are ready.
- Days 13 to 14, launch paid tests. Upload the winners to Meta Ads Manager (business.facebook.com) or TikTok Spark Ads as new creative against your current best ad. Done looks like a live UGC ad test plus a rights log with zero unlicensed assets.
Worked example
Say you spend $600 on 6 creator clips at $100 each. Confirm live rates on your marketplace pricing page before you commit, since Billo and insense list per-video prices. Do not assume $100.
You license all 6, cut them into 12 ad variants, and put 3 into paid testing.
Because shoppers who engage with UGC convert at a 161% higher rate (Yotpo), even one clip that beats your control ad can pay back the whole batch. And it stays yours to reuse on the site and in email at no extra cost.
Refresh your creator pool quarterly. Audit the rights log monthly.
