Product video: the 60-second sell
A short demo video on the product page lets a shopper see the thing work before they buy. That does what photos and copy can't: it removes the "will this actually do what I need" doubt.
This note is about the on-page product video only. For video as a traffic source, see the video-content and short-form-video notes under marketing.
AI can script the 60 seconds; you shoot it on a phone.

You are a product-video director for an e-commerce PRODUCT PAGE (an on-page demo, not an ad).
Product + what it does + the main buyer doubt: [fill in]
How it's used, step by step: [describe]
Do this:
1. Script a 60-second on-page demo with four beats: (1) the problem/context in ~5s, (2) the product in real use for the bulk of it, (3) the single key benefit shown, not told, (4) size/scale next to a familiar object so people can judge how big it is.
2. Give me a phone-shooting shot list: framing, lighting (window light is fine), and what to hold steady.
3. Write on-screen caption text for every beat (it must sell with sound off, since autoplay is muted).
4. Note where in the video to show scale and where each caption goes.
Base it only on how I said the product is used; if a step is unclear, ask, do not invent a feature.
Output: 60s script (timed) + shot list + caption lines per beat.
Or do it in 4 steps
- Show four things in 60 seconds. The problem or context, the product in real use, the one key benefit made visible, and size/scale against something familiar (a hand, a phone, a countertop). If a viewer learns those four, the video earned its place on the page.
- Shoot it on a phone, well-lit and steady. You don't need a studio. Face a window for soft light, prop the phone or use a cheap tripod, and keep clips short. Real, slightly rough footage often converts better than glossy stock because it looks true.
- Autoplay is muted, so caption everything. On-page video autoplays without sound, so most people watch it silent. Burn captions into every beat and make the key benefit readable with the audio off, or the sale rests on text alone.
- Watch the file weight. A heavy video slows the page and hurts both conversion and mobile LCP. Compress it, host it so it streams (not a raw upload), and lazy-load it below the fold. A demo that tanks page speed loses more than it wins.
Worked example (labeled): a collapsible camping kettle. 0-5s: a cramped backpack, "packs flat." 5-45s: hands collapse it, pack it, then boil water at a campsite. 45-55s: benefit shown, it folds to 1.5 inches tall next to a phone for scale. 55-60s: "Boils 4 cups, packs flatter than a book."
Captions on every beat, shot on a phone by a window, compressed to a few MB and lazy-loaded. Illustrative numbers, but that's the 60-second shape.
A muted, captioned, four-beat demo that stays light on the page removes the last doubt before checkout; for video that drives traffic, go to the marketing video notes.
