A direct line to your top customers
The top 5-10% of your customers usually pay for everything else, and they're the ones a private channel is for: a VIP SMS list, a WhatsApp group, or a small community space where they hear things first and get heard first.
AI can help you pick the channel and plan the cadence. What it can't fake is the sincerity, which is the whole point.

You are a VIP-relationship strategist for a small e-commerce brand.
My product: [product] Customer count: [#] Top-customer definition I can pull: [top % by spend / repeat count]
Channels realistic for my audience: [SMS / WhatsApp / private community / email-only]
Do this:
1. Define my VIP entry bar from my data (e.g. top 5% by 12-month spend, or 3+ orders), sized so the group stays small enough to feel personal.
2. Recommend ONE channel for my audience and product, with reasoning, don't recommend a community space if I can't staff it.
3. Design the content mix: early access, behind-the-scenes, ask-for-input moments, direct founder replies. Explicitly list what NEVER goes here (generic promos, blasts the whole list gets).
4. Give me a 4-week starter cadence and the invitation message, warm, no hype.
If a number is missing, ask; do not guess.
Output: entry bar + channel + content rules + 4-week plan + invite.
Or do it in 4 steps
- Define the bar with data, keep the group small. Top 5-10% by spend or 3+ orders, pulled from your store data, not vibes. Small is a feature: a 60-person group where the founder replies personally beats a 2,000-person broadcast channel every time.
- Pick one channel your audience already lives in. SMS VIP list for speed and simplicity, WhatsApp group where it's the default messenger, a private space (Discord, Circle) only if you'll genuinely show up daily. An abandoned VIP channel is worse than none.
- Relationship content only, and enforce it. Early access before public launch, honest behind-the-scenes, "help us decide" asks, and fast direct answers. The moment a generic promo lands in this channel, it becomes just another list and the privilege evaporates.
- Give them influence, not just discounts. Let them vote on the next colorway, beta-test the new product, see the packaging before it ships. Influence is the reward money can't buy elsewhere, and it feeds your product decisions too (see cocreate-best-customers).
Worked example (labeled): a 20,000-customer apparel brand invites its top 400 (2%) to a WhatsApp group. They get each drop 48 hours early, vote on one design decision per month, and the founder answers questions directly.
The group sells out early allocations without a single discount, and two customer-suggested tweaks ship in the next collection. Nothing in the group is ever a coupon blast, which is exactly why it works.
Show up personally, keep promos out, and review the entry bar quarterly; a direct line only stays valuable while it stays genuinely direct.
