The 2-hour competitor teardown: store, pricing, traffic
A competitor teardown tells you what already works in your niche before you spend a dollar testing it yourself.
Timebox it to two hours across four lanes: their product pages, their pricing and offers, their traffic sources, and their reviews. Then let AI compile the dossier, so you finish with decisions, not 40 open tabs.

You are a competitive analyst. Use only what you can actually read on their sites and tools. Do not guess.
My product / niche: [e.g. pour-over coffee gear]
2-3 competitor store URLs: [url1, url2, url3]
Do this:
1. Open each competitor's store. For their top 3 products capture: price, bundle/subscription offers, shipping threshold, and the main promise in the hero copy.
2. Open Similarweb (similarweb.com) free estimates for each domain and read their top traffic channels (direct / search / social / referral) and rough monthly visits. These are estimates, label them as such.
3. Read the 10 most recent reviews per competitor and note the 3 most repeated praises and complaints.
4. Compile a one-page dossier: a pricing/offer comparison table, a traffic-source summary, and 3 gaps I could exploit.
If you cannot browse a tool, leave that cell blank and tell me to fill it from [Similarweb / their store]. Never invent a traffic number or a price.
Output: pricing table + traffic summary + review themes + 3 exploitable gaps.
Or do it in 5 steps
- Pick 3 real competitors, not 10. Choose the ones a customer actually compares you against: same price band, same audience, not the category giant. Three is enough to see the pattern and few enough to finish in two hours.
- Tear down their offer, not just their price. For each, log the headline price, any bundle or subscribe-and-save, the free-shipping threshold, and the one promise their homepage leads with. The offer structure is usually where they beat or lose you, not the sticker number.
- Estimate their traffic for free. Similarweb's free tier gives rough monthly visits and a channel split (search vs social vs direct). Treat the numbers as ballpark ranges. But the channel mix tells you where they actually win customers.
- Mine their reviews for the pattern. Read the newest 10 reviews each and tally repeated words. Consistent praise shows what you must match; consistent complaints are your opening (that's the next note).
- Let AI compile the dossier. Paste your raw notes back and have it build the comparison table and name 3 gaps. You supply the observations; AI does the synthesis.
Worked example (labeled): pour-over coffee gear, 3 competitors. The teardown shows all three lead with 'specialty beans', but only one offers a grinder bundle.
Similarweb free estimates put two of them at ~60/40 search-vs-social, while the third is ~80% social (they live on TikTok). Reviews repeatedly praise packaging and complain about slow shipping.
The dossier writes itself: a bundle gap, an under-served search channel, and a shipping-speed promise you can own.
Run it timeboxed and end with decisions, not tabs; a teardown you never turn into 3 gaps was just window-shopping.
