Capture the email before the first sale
Most first-time visitors leave and never come back, and ads to re-reach them cost more every quarter.
An owned email or SMS contact is the one asset that brings them back for free.
AI can draft the popup and model which incentive is cheapest per signup from your own margins. You wire the form and welcome flow in your ESP, because AI can't send mail or read your analytics.

You are a lifecycle marketer setting up first-visit email capture for a DTC store.
Product: [one line] AOV: [$] Gross margin: [%] Real per-order shipping cost: [$]
Using MY numbers only:
1. Draft 3 popup variants (headline, subhead, CTA button), each built around a different incentive: (a) a % discount, (b) free shipping, (c) content or early access. Keep every line under 15 words.
2. Compute the cost per captured address for each incentive from my numbers: a 10% code costs AOV x 10% only when redeemed; free shipping costs my real ship cost each redemption; content costs about zero. Show the math per incentive and state the redemption rate you assumed.
3. Recommend the cheapest incentive a visitor still values, plus the trigger timing.
Do not guess or estimate any number. Every figure must come from a number I gave you or a source you can cite, and you must name the source next to it. If you cannot get a real number, leave it blank and ask me to fill it in. If you can't browse, still compute from my numbers, leave any missing figure blank, and tell me which one to supply.
Output: the 3 variants, then ONE table with columns Incentive | Cost per address | Notes, then one recommendation line.
Or do it in 4 steps
- Pick the incentive by cost, not habit. A 10% code, free shipping, and a content or early-access offer each cost a different amount per captured address. A discount only costs you when redeemed; free shipping costs your real ship rate every time. Compute cost per address for each and pick the cheapest one a visitor still values.
- Build a 2-step popup in Klaviyo (Sign-up Forms) or Shopify Forms: step 1 asks for the email in exchange for the offer, step 2 (optional) adds SMS with an explicit, un-pre-ticked consent box. Two-step forms convert better than one long form and let you keep the email even when they skip SMS.
- Time the trigger: fire at about 8 seconds or 50% scroll on mobile, and add an exit-intent trigger on desktop. Don't fire on page load, it interrupts before any interest forms and tanks the submit rate.
- Connect a welcome flow in Klaviyo that sends the promised code instantly and introduces the brand. A captured email with no follow-up is wasted. The interest window passes within days. Track the popup's submit rate monthly; treat last month as the bar, not a borrowed benchmark. Done: a live popup, a working welcome email, and a recorded submit rate.
Worked example (labeled, plug in your own numbers): say AOV $70, gross margin 55%, real shipping $8.
A 10% code is worth $7 off an order, but it only costs you when it's redeemed. If you assume 1 in 5 subscribers redeems, the cost spread across every captured address is roughly $1.40.
Free shipping at a real $8 costs more per redemption. Content costs almost nothing per address but usually converts fewer signups. These figures are illustrative, not benchmarks: put in your own AOV, margin, ship cost, and redemption rate before you choose.
Review the popup submit rate monthly, and A/B test the incentive type before the copy.
