Give your brand a voice AI can't blandify
AI writes fast but sounds generic by default. The fix isn't writing everything by hand. It's a one-page voice guide distilled from your own best content, then fed into every prompt.
AI can extract the traits and draft the guide from samples you paste. You pick which actually sound like the brand, because only you know that.
Fastest path: one prompt, end to end
🤖 AI prompt — paste into ChatGPT / Claude
You are a brand-voice strategist.
Paste 5 samples of my best-performing content (emails, posts, product copy):
[paste 5]
Do this:
1. Extract 3 distinct voice traits my writing already shows (e.g. "dry humor", "plain-spoken, no jargon", "warm and direct"). Quote a line from my samples as evidence for each.
2. Build a 1-page voice guide: the 3 traits, a short say / don't-say table, and 2 example sentences per trait.
3. Rewrite ONE of my sample paragraphs to show the guide applied, so I can see the before/after.
Use only what's in the samples. Do not invent facts, claims, or numbers about my brand; if something isn't in the samples, leave a [bracket] and ask me.
Output: traits with evidence, the say/don't-say table, and the rewritten paragraph.
Or do it in 4 steps
- Gather your 10 best-performing pieces — top emails by click-through, top posts by save/share, product pages that convert. Winners already encode the voice that works; you're reverse-engineering it, not inventing it.
- Extract 3 traits, with evidence. Ask AI to name the patterns and quote the lines that prove each. Three is enough to be distinctive and simple enough to apply under deadline. Reject any trait you can't point to a real sentence for.
- Write the say / don't-say table. Concrete rules beat adjectives: "We say 'grab', not 'purchase'." "We use contractions." "No exclamation stacks." "Lead with the benefit, name the feature second." A rule you can check in ten seconds is a rule the whole team can follow.
- Paste the guide into every AI draft prompt. "Write in this voice: [guide]" turns generic output into on-brand output instantly, and it scales — the same one page governs email, social, product copy, and support replies.
Worked example (labeled): trait "plain-spoken, no jargon" → say "this fixes X", don't say "leverage our solution to optimize X".
Feeding that single rule into an AI draft is the difference between copy that sounds like you and copy that sounds like every other brand in the category.
Anchor all three traits to one core story — why you exist, who it's for, what you refuse to do — so the voice carries meaning, not just tone.
Refresh the guide when your top-performing content shifts, roughly twice a year.
